Industrial farming practices are releasing large amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. With the world’s supply of topsoil predicted to erode within just 60 years, we realised that while farming is the problem, it could also be the answer. We started Earthworks to urgently restore the health of our soils at a scale and pace that will have a palpable impact on our planet.
It was back in 2011 that Federico, our Head of Sourcing, first suggested that we should be growing our own produce as well as sourcing it. Our experiences with some of the world’s most innovative and dedicated growers put us in a unique position. By actively farming, we can now put over a decade of knowledge into practice to challenge the aggressive industrial practices which are degrading our soils at an alarming rate.
It took us ten years to get there, but today we’ve taken farming into our hands. Redefining flavour at soil level, Natoora Earthworks is regenerating our ecosystems and drawing down carbon while producing nutrient-dense, traceable produce.
Over the coming years we will be expanding Earthworks to restore soils from California to Sicily, proving that growing sustainably is a financially viable and scalable alternative to intensive farming for generations to come.
In time, our hope is that our farms will also act as centres for research and education that reinforce a global campaign for regenerative agriculture.
