Summer Tomato Box

This Tomato Box is a vibrant celebration of summer umami, packed with an exclusive selection of tomatoes from small-scale growers across Italy. Each variety offers its own unexpected intensity and subtle nuance, from the famously sauce-worthy San Marzano to the deeply sweet Datterini, best enjoyed straight off the vine, just as nature intended.

In nature, no two days look the same. That’s why your box might differ slightly from this image and list, reflecting nature’s highs.

Barbastro – From Rioja, there’s Barbastro. This open-pollinated beefsteak variety is grown widely across Spain, however we only source it during its natural season. These large tomatoes typically weigh between 300-500g each, and they’re characterised by their deep pink skin and low seed to flesh ratio.

San Marzano – Dantona’s deep red San Marzano are famously the best variety for making tomato sauce. The first crop grows in tunnels as early as January, with Dantona planting in two stages to extend the season. In May, he plants his next crop outdoors under nets. Refusing to use chemicals on his land, these nets offer both protection from insects and shade from the intense summer sun.

Datterino – Slow ripened flavour. Incomparable Sicilian sweetness. Our Datterini are cultivated by Tuccio in Acate and Dantona in Marina di Modica. They’re grown slowly through the cooler months which is what gives them their signature concentrated sweetness, absorbed from the nutrient-rich soil. Left to fully ripen on the vine, the growers water their plants minimally, exerting a stress that creates exceptional flavour.

Ligurian Bull’s Heart – Fabrizio grows Bull’s Heart Tomatoes from hybrid seeds. They have a characteristic heart shape and a deep red colour which is rarely found in other varieties. The pulp is compact, with few seeds and a clean tomato flavour, enhanced by a good acidity. Their scarred, thin skins mark them as varieties grown for flavour, not yield.

We exist to fix the food system.

People are more cut off from the origins of their food than ever. This makes flavour, nutrition and farming practices that protect the planet, almost impossible to find.

By working directly with growers, we create a more sustainable way forward for farming. By giving everyone the tools to understand the power of our food choices, we empower everybody to become drivers of change.

Now is the time for action. Join the food system revolution.
