FARM FUND

Support young growers. Create a better food system.

Farm Fund is our global force dedicated to raising capital for the next generation of agroecological growers. With your help, our impact is growing every year. Together, we can lift up the future guardians of our planet.

We put our weight behind the farming projects and communities whose methods offer restorative alternatives to the intensive farming systems that are depleting our ecosystems and human health.

In focusing solely on agroecological growers of 35 and under, we want to build long term resilience into farming by giving those who might not otherwise be able to get a foot on the farming ladder a vital step up.

Are you a young grower looking for support? Learn more about our application process.

Our Farm Fund 2024-2025 season is now open for applications. You have until November 30th to get yours in.

WHY FUND AGROECOLOGY?

Over a third of all man-made greenhouse gas emissions result from food production and the way we eat is the single biggest driver of biodiversity loss on Earth. Changing our approach to farming will make or break the future of our planet.

We’ve invested in better farming and food with flavour for almost two decades. In 2021, incited to accelerate our impact and formalise our action, we launched Farm Fund and have since donated over $100,000 to varied growing projects. With our backing, young farmers have taken on new land, diversified their crop planning, and built long-lasting infrastructure without having to compromise on their values or growing practices.

NO FUTURE WITHOUT FARMERS

The people who grow our food are integral to all our lives yet they are rarely given the recognition they deserve, much less the financial support they need.

For entrant farmers, the challenges presented by today’s social, financial and ecological climate are real — systemic injustice, extreme weather, risk-averse financial institutions, labour shortages and rising costs. Without proper mentorship and support, growing is a daunting vocation that few young people consider viable.

Yet their participation is vital: fewer than 3% of farmers in the UK are under the age of 35 and the average age of the US farmer hit 58 at the last official count. Our experience at ground level brings these figures to life — many of our growers are over the age of 50, and few have succession plans.

If we fail to raise up young growers, we will be left with No one to farm our food in the next couple of decades.

Seed sovereignty, food justice, climate resilience, access to land, ecosystem regeneration — that’s what we’re backing with the Farm Fund and these are the people putting it into action.

Read up on our previous grant winners to hear their journeys, and discover how their projects can be used as case studies in ecosystem restoration.

“A huge pull of doing this project is being able to bring other people from our community into this work… There are very few farms that one, grow culturally rooted vegetables; two, are safe for queer and trans people; three, are for BIPOC and specifically Asian folks - there just aren’t many of us out here.”

We exist to fix the food system.

People are more cut off from the origins of their food than ever. This makes flavour, nutrition and farming practices that protect the planet, almost impossible to find.

By working directly with growers, we create a more sustainable way forward for farming. By giving everyone the tools to understand the power of our food choices, we empower everybody to become drivers of change.

Now is the time for action. Join the food system revolution.
